Joseph BoatengWater / Sanitation Engineer
Mr. Boateng holds a MSc. Degree in Water Supply and Environmental Sanitation and a BSc. Agricultural Engineering from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and has over 10 years of professional experience in co-ordinating and providing technical support for Rural Water and Sanitation Programmes with national and international exposure. In my capacity as Water and Environmental Sanitation (WES) Officer with UNICEF in Sudan, I coordinated and provided technical support to the government’s Rural Water Department in the procurement of contractors for the construction of water supply projects and institutional latrines for schools and health centers.
I have coordinated the planning, design and bidding processes for selection of contractors and construction supervision of water supply projects for some selected communities in Atebubu, Berekum and Jaman Districts of Brong Ahafo Region among others under the Small Towns Water Supply project of the Community Water and Sanitation Programme II (CWSP-II). I was involved in the design and preparation of bidding documents for the 3 District Water Supply Project which included Dangme West, Dangme East and North Tongu Districts.
I have been involved in undertaking topographical surveys, studies and design of irrigation dam and dugout for some communities in the Techiman, Atebubu and Yendi Districts under the Village Infrastructure Project, World Bank Project,
I have also been involved in the determination of technical options based on financial analysis in the design of solid waste management scheme for Atebubu Township in the Atebubu District of Ghana. I have been involved in the designed wastewater treatment plant (Macrophyte-based) for Ejuraman Secondary School in the Ejura/Sekyeredumase District of Ashanti Region under the sponsorship of the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ).

A Post-graduate Thesis in partial fulfillment for the award of a Master of Science (MSc.) degree in Water Supply and Environmental Sanitation, Department of Civil Engineering/School of Graduate Studies, KNUST, Kumasi, August 2000. - “Quality of Irrigation Water for the Annum valley bottom rice irrigation project at Nobewam”. An undergraduate Thesis submitted in partial fulfillment for the award of a Bachelor of Science (BSc.) degree in Agricultural Engineering to the School Engineering, UST, Kumasi, July 1994.
- “Social Marketing of Urban Sanitation in Ghana”. A research work carried out jointly by TREND and WEDC, UK in Nkawie – Ghana under the sponsorship of DFID.
Jan 11- Date : Carried out proposal evaluation for selection of Technical Assistance (TA)
Consultants for design, construction supervision and software services in some Small Towns in 7 districts of Brong Ahafo region of Ghana.
Involved in the capacity building training for AMA-WMD, Private sector operators in Solid Waste Management within the Accra Metropolis and some Youth Groups in scope of works development, tender document preparation and management of contract; and in performance analysis and Monitoring and evaluation for improved waste management services delivery.
Jan 10- Dec 10: Involved in the training facilitation of Kumasi Metropolitan Assemblly Waste Management staff, Environmental Health Officers and some Private Waste Collection Companies on Malaria Control Programme.
Mar 05- Dec 09: Provided technical support for the design of small and medium-sized mechanized water supply systems wherever feasible to increase coverage of potable drinking water supply in target communities in Southern Sudan; Prepared documents for awarding contracts for boreholes drilling, installation of handpumps and rehabilitation of disused safe water facilities; Prepared documents for awarding contracts for the construction ofsmall and medium piped water supply schemes in guinea worm endemic bigger villages and small towns. Supervise drilling operations and managed contacts for efficient Implementation of water supply projects. Monitored and evaluated UNICEF-assisted water supply projects to ascertain impacts of projects, documented lessons learned and best practices.

Design and construction supervision of a Macrophyte-based Wastewater Treatment Plant (Pilot Scheme) for Ejuraman Secondary School in the Ejura/Sekyeredumase District, Project sponsored by GTZ.
